Our organization

European Startup Network (ESN) unifies 23 national startup associations, representing 23 countries and 25.000+ startups across Europe in total less than a year after its creation! ESN aims to to create a common voice for European startups so that more can start, scale and succeed in the EU – more specifically through:

  • Data analysis to support policy making
  • Facilitating international go-to-market
  • Building strong national startup ecosystems by sharing & scaling best practices

Role description

We are looking for an experienced Community Manager to develop and control all strategic and business aspects of the network, working closely with the Board of Directors and the members of the association and such responsible for giving the proper strategic direction as well as creating a vision for success.

To thrive as a Community Manager, you must be a prudent manager and an inspiring leader. The ideal candidate will have a business mindset and will be able to see the “big picture” in a variety of settings – allowing the organization to find it “product market fit” through continuous interaction with its stakeholders. The interests of these different stakeholders, i.e. the entrepreneurs & startups, the member associations, the policy makers and the business partners, need to be balanced at all times.

The goal is to drive the European startup ecosystem forward by developing open and collaborative models to pilot the networked economy.


Business Strategy

  • Develop a business plan and validate the product/market fit to advance the business and secure sustainability

Thought leadership & Ecosystem Development

  • Build trust relations with key partners and stakeholders and act as a point of contact for important shareholders, including the member associations, policy makers and business partners as well as startups & entrepreneurs in general
  • Develop thought leadership and evangelize on the opportunities a digital society has to offer and the European startup ecosystem more in particular – potentially leading to a more nurturing policy, legal and fiscal climate for entrepreneurship in Europe
  • Develop quantitative & qualitative insights on the European startup ecosystem – to be shared as openly as possible
  • Develop strategies to increase the market access across and beyond Europe for European entrepreneurs

Business Operations

  • Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission
  • Develop, lead and motivate a small but high performing managerial team

Desired skills and experience

  • Proven experience as Community Manager or in other managerial position
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and implementing vision
  • Strong understanding of finance and performance management principles
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, PR, finance etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • Prior experience working with multiple stakeholders, including public sector
  • A thirst for social impact
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and customer service orientation
  • Thorough knowledge of English
  • Ability to foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships
  • Bonus: prior experience with EU funded projects
